About KC Nwakalor

KC Nwakalor (b. 1991) is a Nigerian-born Documentary Photographer, Producer, and Educator based in Manchester, UK. His work focuses on social, economic, health, and environmental issues, particularly their impact across Africa and its diaspora. His evolving personal practice explores identity, migration, and belonging through reflective and nuanced visual storytelling.

KC began his career in Abuja, Nigeria, where he lived and worked for nearly a decade. He has covered stories across West Africa, with a focus on mining and oil exploration, public health crises, and sociopolitical change. His work has appeared in The New York Times, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Financial Times, Time Magazine, Le Monde, and NPR.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Abuja and a postgraduate certificate in Photojournalism (New York Institute of Photography) and Documentary Storytelling (University of the Arts London). He has participated in notable workshops and reviews, including the VII Academy Foundry Workshop, Magnum Portfolio Review, Canon Storytelling Workshop, and The New York Times Portfolio Review. He is a recipient of the Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund and a World Press Photo 6x6 Global Talent nominee.

KC’s work has been exhibited internationally, and he has delivered talks and workshops at institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Royal Photographic Society, World Press Photo, and the Magnum Foundation. He is a member of Diversify Photo, The Royal Photographic Society, Frontline Freelance Register, and the African Photojournalism Database (APJD).
