Born in Tokyo in 1983, Kentaro Watanabe discovered photography in his early thirties and has been photographing the streets of Tokyo for over a decade.
He has always been drawn to people who seem slightly outside the flow of the crowd. Rather than dramatic events, he is interested in quiet expressions, subtle gestures, and the brief moments when someone’s inner world becomes visible.
Recently, through counseling, he realized something unexpected: he had spent much of his life without truly understanding his own emotions. That realization changed not only the way he lives, but also the way he photographs.
Photography has become a way of paying attention—to other people, and to himself. Each photograph is part of an ongoing search to better understand human emotion, connection, and the small moments that reveal who we are.
