LUCAS GIBSON (b. 1992) is a Brazilian photographer based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Currently he is a student of the postgraduation course of Photography and Image at University Candido Mendes. He began to photograph in 2015, when he studied Japanese language, literature and culture at Osaka University, and developed photographic projects about Japanese youth and Japanese society's social aspects. His work was exhibited in Japan and in important festivais in Brazil, such as Paraty Em Foco and FestFotoPOA.
In 2017, his was selected by David Alan Harvey to be the winner of Magnum Rio Scholarship, so he could study with Magnum photographer Cristina García Rodero. In the same year, his portfolio was selected by polish curator Krzysztof Candrowicz to join the portfolio review platform in The Triennal of Photography Hamburg, that will happen in 2018.
In July of 2017, part of his series "Under the Nerve of the Night" was selected to be part of Joaquim Paiva's Collection, being also part of the collection of The Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro.
