About Marta Capote
Marta Capote Yeregui
Madrid, Spain, 1970
I started working at the age of 19 in a newspaper in southern Spain, ´Europa Sur`, with 20 years wanting to learn more I decided to do a Master Class on Photojournalism with Xurxo Lobato in the other end of the country: Galicia. Here I found work, in almost all the newspapers and magazines there was; The most important and decisive moment being the early morning of December 3, 1992 when the Greek oil tanker ´ Aegean Sea` ran aground in front of the city . Two years later, Agencia Efe called me to work with them. On September 10, 1996 another chaotic moment arrived: the collapse of the Bens landfill with 200,000 tons of garbage. In 1997 I received a grant from the European Union to carry out a photographic exchange between the newspaper ´La Voz de Galicia` and two Portuguese newspapers: ´O Jornal de Noticia` -Oporto- and ´O Público` in Lisbon. There I had optic neuritis and a devastating medical diagnosis: Multiple Sclerosis. From one day to the next my life turned 180º so I decided that if I could no longer work as a Photojournalist, nothing prevented me from taking the Photos that I was constantly seeing everywhere.
There began my career as an Artist, and a succession of Exhibitions on the subjects that I photographed: ´Menos Mal Que nos Queda Portugal` 1997 about my trip to this country.
In 2001 I exhibited ´15001` a series about the district in which I live

2002 we founded a collective with several multidisciplinary Artists: ´Artual` and we continued exhibiting in various places in Galicia until it dissolved like the end of a Rock Band..., in 2004 they called me from the important photography festival: ´Outono Fotográfico`. Then I decided that I wanted to dedicate myself to documenting the places and moments where people are going to have fun, and be happy: ´BAR_es`: https://martacapote.shutterchance.com/image/2011/04/17/b--a--r-es--01/

Now I continue to edit my work on the trip to Cuba in 2018, to which Karina's portrait belongs, and doing a lot of ´Street Photography` and ´ Indoor Photography` to portray this hard moment that we are living due to SARS-CoV-2. Impossible not to.
An affectionate Greeting,
Marta Capote Yeregui
