Maryna Syrovatka is a Ukrainian-born photographer based in Bratislava, Slovakia. After a career in law, she turned to photography and later opened her studio in Bratislava in 2021, where she has worked primarily since.
Working mainly through portraiture, she focuses on individuals at pivotal moments in their lives, when they find themselves on the threshold between different realities. Rooted in storytelling, her photography examines how personal experience intersects with broader social realities.
Her debut photobook Don’t Worry, I’m Fine, developed from a long-term project with Ukrainians displaced by Russia’s full-scale invasion, was self-published in 2025 and selected as a finalist for PhotoEspaña Best Photobook of the Year 2026. Her work has also been shortlisted for the PhMuseum Photography Grant 2025, selected as a finalist for the PORTRAITS – Hellerau Photography Award 2025, and awarded 1st Place at Rovinj Photodays 2025.
Her photographs have been featured in Elle Italia, Ukraine: Love+War by FotoEvidence, Fresh Eyes by GUP Magazine, and on the PhotoVogue platform.
