I was born in England and now live in Australia. Yet, it's the American landscape I've always been captivated by.
I grew up in the seventies on a steady diet of American culture through the medium of film, television and music. I believe it was this early influence in life that led me to become inspired by the American large format colour photographers who grew attention in the era. I was captivated by their seemingly ordinary looking street scenes and vistas. Their pictures had a fastidious intricacy; another character of the image, scrupulously captured by the photographer, large format camera and 8x10 film. The period in which they were set instantly lent another dimension to these images. They reminded me of my youth and a simpler way of life. Much of America's urban sprawl still seems locked in that vintage, which in turn, leads me back there year after year, possibly in search for the nostalgia of my youth.
