An artist since birth, Matthew Klein is a photographer.
He studied art and architecture at Cooper Union and visual communication at Parsons School of Design.
He taught at Parsons and Pratt.
Profoundly moved by Ad Reinhardt’s black paintings, Klein strives to make art that emphasizes the experience of looking at the artwork, rather than seeing through the work to a supposed view.
Klein worked as a commercial, editorial and advertising photographer from 1969 to 2018.
During that time he consistently worked on personal projects, some more akin to painting, and chose to grow outside of the traditional gallery-museum culture.
