Dr. Maurice D Masdeu is a published contemporary American photographer. Having been medically retired from military service for left eye blindness, his work explores themes of loneliness and isolation in the context of larger environments, including cities and open spaces. Maurice’s documentary work seeks narrative of unique issues, including coping with PTSD and depression, through images. His work is therapeutic in nature, as he himself tackles those very themes after his wartime service. His work is inspired by Gordon Parks, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Elliot Erwitt, Fan Ho, Sebastian Salgado, Bruce Gilden, and Daido Moriyama. Maurice recently completed a long term mentorship program under the guidance of Magnum Photographer Bruce Gilden. He lives in North Carolina with his wife, daughter, and son.
