I portrayed these couples within the intimate setting of their own homes. Places they built and cherished during their long years together. My project Good Old Gays challenges the common prejudice that gay people are unable tot sustain long term relationships or that they are only interested in casual sex with anonymous contacts.
The portraits are moving precisely because of the knowledge that most of these couples have been able to sustain their relationships over decades in an often times hostile environment and dealing with a discriminatory attitude. They have been breaking ground for a more tolerant attitude against LBGT-s and as such are role models for younger generations: it is more than possible for two gay people to grow old together.
A publication and exhibition, showing these older gay-couples in their private environment is being planned for capital cities all over Europe. A hart felt contribution to the debate about the position of the Good Old Gays in our present societies.
