I moved from Buffalo, NY to Santa Ana, CA twenty years ago to attend graduate school at CSU Fullerton. Santa Ana is a neighborhood out of sync with the surrounding wealth and excess of Orange County. I relocated to San Marcos to teach full time at Palomar College and settled into the Palomar Station apartment complex located across the Sprinter tracks from the college.
These photographs are part of a portfolio that began in 2014 when i fell in love with the light and community of French Park, a secret enclave two blocks big with million dollar homes nestled next to apartment complexes brimming with energy. The images made at Palomar Station are an exploration of my new topographics, specifically how the occupants carve out individual identities from the thoughtless architecture of modern mass consumption.
