Surface Encounters

Geometric shapes in the urban landscape can, and should, encourage meaningful human encounters. But these surfaces can become aestheticized to the point where they encourage us to withdraw, to ignore, and to trivialize our encounters with another. We then place ourselves, and others, against backdrops that feed our fantasies, rather than facilitate actual encounters. This series explores such settings in downtown New York City, 2017-18.
