Two Seasons of Long Point

This series of aerial photographs centre around Long Point during the warm summer months and then deeper into winter. Long Point is a sand spit, located on Lake Erie in Ontario, Canada. For me, this whole area is steeped with intrigue, both from the air and on the ground. More than 400 ships have sunk in an area called “The Lake Erie Quadrangle”. It is an important wetland complex for bird migration in spring and autumn. The complexity of the land formation and its vulnerability in storms fascinates me. These photographs explore an overview of the area, showing it as it transitions from summer to winter. I always enjoy the colours found in the area – the greens, turquoises and azure blues that Erie can offer up. I've seen those waters appear as tropical teals lapping against the sandy beaches yet accented with the whitest of snow in winter. I marvel at these contradictions one sees from the air over Lake Erie and Long Point. The sights in this area never disappoint when you want to enjoy something unique and natural.
