"The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything." - Albert Einstein -
This series reflects on our disconnect from nature. We have separated ourselves from the oneness of which we are intrinsically part. By changing the color paradigm of my images from South America, the Middle East and - humanity's birthplace - the African continent, I symbolize this estrangement. In addition, the barren images visualize isolation and dissociation.
In many countries, climate change has become a political issue, the camp of deniers fueled by industrial, financial and political opportunism. Many people feel a sense of powerlessness and despair, resulting in despondency. The younger generation has begun to express its anger at our inability to act. With the clock ticking and feeling overwhelmed, we wonder whether we can beat institutionalized greed, established economical interests and our own hedonism and materialism. In addition to governments prioritizing sustainability, we need more grass-root initiatives and innovative thinking. We humans can do anything if we put our minds to it, but can our strengths conquer our weaknesses in this ultimate test.
