Portraits of the lobstering community of Corea, Maine
The iconic Maine Harbor is changing. Fishermen can no longer afford to live on the harbor. At one time the lobster fisherman walked out of their doors right to the harbor, allowing them to work on their boats and gear with ease. Today more and more families that have lived and worked out of the harbor for generations are not able to afford the property on the water. The older generations pass away and their properties are sold to people from out of state. The new generation of fishermen face more regulations, a higher cost of living, a plunge in market price for their catch as well as a changing harbor of people from “away.”
The Downeast Harborside portraits is an on going series in an effort to preserve the Manie Identity of Corea and it's life long residents.
