Collodion Wet Plate
The real beauty of the Collodion Process is the sense of risk and uncertainty it brings. Collodion is an unpredictable chemical in that creates flaws and imperfections within the surface of the glass. There for the artist must embrace flaws found within their work, accepting the result.
The Collodion Process embodies the concept of Wabi-Sabi, in which the artist must also accept the imperfections of nature. Wabi-Sabi aims to harness natural resources, incorporating their shape and patina into their work. The spirit of nature must be captured. To express this spirit, I have illustrated the beauty of nature through the life and death of flowers. Two states which often sit simultaneously together in one image.
Life is only temporary; it slowly decays until death. To display these states together allows the viewer to observe a rare and fleeting moment in life. It evokes appreciation for life. Nothing lasts, everything is temporary, all will eventually fade into nothingness.
