My current photographs explore dichotomies of strength within fragility, moments of stillness and transformation, and beauty in decay - all while suspended in states of uncertainty and the unknown. The botanical elements in each photograph are at later stages of their life-cycle and are a metaphor for the physiological changes within the body, phases of being, passage of time, impermanence, transcendence and metamorphosis.
I created these photographs as a way to capture and alter the random natural processes, changes and endings of botanical materials to transform them into a new narrative, purpose or beginning. Some elements are renewed or preserved by water, randomly photographed or intentionally disassembled and re-arranged to create small worlds that focus on the details inherent in different parts of the structures of flowers and leaves.
There is beauty, strength and grace that remain even in imperfect and fragile natural elements that are beyond their normal lifespan.
