U.S., b. 1958 Stan is a Photographic artist based in Atlanta. My work, in general, is inspired from an unusual mix of creative minds; Magnum photographer Elliot Erwitt and educator and poet, Minor White. Erwitt’s simple message that “you can find pictures anywhere. It’s simply a matter of noticing things and organizing them. You just have to care about what’s around you…”. White considered the photograph as an equivalent for human emotion, a metaphor and spiritual experience. “One should not only photograph things for what they are but for what else they are.”
Under this premise, I give mindfulness to moments of trivial distraction that push me to see beyond the obvious. As a result, much of my images become visual survey’s. A collection of images that at the moment do not fit into any one category but were interesting enough to distract me from whatever it was I was doing at the time. Seeds for future projects? I hope so.
