'LEICA FOR A PICTORIAL SERIES' (TAKEN AS GROUP OR SINGULAR)

'Inhabited Deserts' My concept has been to use the desert as a painter uses a virgin white canvas; and while traveling through different deserts of the world (from Russia to Egypt, Mauritania, Oman to the USA etc) I searched to discover what imagery would be revealed to my eye. In the pictures I am submitting my camera ceased to be a tool to capture an image rather an a tool --as paintbrush or keyboard-- to 'capture' the unknown in me. Conceptually I seek the symbiosis between the landscape before me and the imagery buried within me. I do not hunt for the image rather the photograph finds me. Through this subliminal search the result is, hopefully, in my photograph, in my “canvas“, an expression of my inner being, of what I feel as an artist. John R. Pepper
