These images began with a trip to the Huangshan Mountains of China a few years ago. High in the mountains, the fog rolls in creating a soft and mysterious space. When I photographed the mountain pines, they often resembled Asian ink brush paintings. This, put together with my experience of Asian landscape painting, led me to see my own environment in a different, more personal way, and apply that same aesthetic to more familiar surroundings.
For me, they denote a personal, intimate space, as they recall moments in the past whose outlines have been softened by the passing of time and the haze of memory.
