Every January for the past three years, I drive up to Frazier Mountain, and sometimes beyond, where I spend the day capturing the land, feeling the cold mountain air, enjoying the silence. It's typically right after New Year's, usually on the first Sunday, so it's particularly quiet. It's become a spiritual retreat--one that I look forward to. These photos lean into some of the literary influences in my life, notably Steinbeck, a Californian, whose shadow is greatly pronounced these days. I'll continue to return every January.
