It is difficult to imagine our lives without plastic. However, the ever-increasing accumulation of plastic waste has already started to destroy our planet and its creatures. A major problem is that plastic is not decomposed and thus, remains as tiny particles on our planet, polluting the ocean and causing disease.
In my project 'Plastic waste', I am using a state-of-the-art light microscope to explore the microscale components of plastic waste that cause so much trouble. I want to raise awareness by creating stunning images. I believe in the power of beautiful images playing with the viewer’s expectations. Therefore, I collected plastic waste, ripped it apart and took microscopic pictures of the parts. Therefore, all these images are unique and cannot be recreated as it is the combination of polarisation and randomly torn plastic piece that determine the final image. This technique reflects the uniqueness of our planet, which we also won’t be able to recreate once destroyed.
