This addresses the situation of the ‘Left Behind Children’ (henceforth LBC) in China. These children are raised by their grandparents or great-grandparents whilst their own parents work in cities sometimes thousands of miles away from them. This project explores how Chinese contemporary art, particularly socially engaged art is able to give a voice to those issues are not always allowed to be expressed in Chinese political and social context.
