This project was created at 65°N on the border of Myvatn Lake in one place, on the june 13th 2014 at midnight until dawn. At this latitude, and at this time of the year, the position of the sun touches the horizon, the boundary between day and night, border both temporal, spatial and visual.
This touch provides a strange feeling: unreal tinged with exoticism, illogical feeling too, because the night is not there. Yet it’s already the new day.
This series invites to a transverse experience: stroking the threshold between light and darkness, to taste the thinness almost symbiotic between dusk and dawn. She interrogates the perceptual border between these two states by exploring the ephemeral porosities that may exist or occur.
The bulb exposure, coupled with the camera movement shows the image of the invisible hand, this unknown, indefinable, inconceivable perhaps infinitely greater than that of visible within reach.
The images reveal lines of lights which vibrate in the manner of chords.
String theory attempts to recreate that experience and particular sensation: the midnight sun.
