Jim & Chantal Roberts, Apache Junction, Arizona: Purity means to wait, not having sex, not having any kids, before you get married. It’s important so that I don’t end up like other people out there that you hear have kids, when they are too young to handle everything. It’s important that you don’t mess up your life, so my commitment was for me to wait to have sex before I marry.

Sophie & Charlie Collins Colorado Springs, Colorado: I got the idea to go to the Purity Ball when my dad gave me a present, and when I opened it there were these tickets to the ball and a dress for me. I’ve seen people without purity and I think having purity is a lot better than not having it. My sister remained pure, and now she has a great life, and the kids in her college like her.

Michael Mychalczuk & Kyrie Mychalczuk, Tucson, Arizona: Purity doesn’t mean that “I want my daughter to be perfect!” – because I want her to be human. But I want her to think very carefully about who she shares the next level of intimacy with. We all have memories of relationships that did not go well, and if you add that next level of intimacy, you are never the same afterwards.

Danny & Sarah Elizabeth Ebarb, Shreveport, Louisiana: My faith in my life is my rock, my guideline. I try to let the Lord guide me in everything I do. To me, faith means trying to be pure, to be the best daughter, the best sister, the best example to younger children, and the best example to your peers. To me, faith means trying to be perfect, even though you know you’ll never be.

Eddika & Philip Grajeda, Tucson, Arizona: My dad and I signed papers at the ball, where I committed to stay pure and my dad committed to show me an example of the man I should marry. One year my dad also gave me a purity ring, which is very important to me. The Bible says that your body is God’s temple, It’s His body, not mine, and I want to save it for the person I’m going to marry.

Kevin & Morgan Rogers, Tucson, Arizona: My father gave me a ring that used to be my grandmother’s when we went to the Purity Ball. It’s a beautiful ring and every time I look at it I think about my grandmother and about staying pure. I knew that my dad cared about me, but being at the ball with him really showed it ten times stronger than ever. It showed me that he truly wants me to stay pure.

Todd & Christa Magee, Shreveport, Louisiana: It’s a sad thing when you see a daughter who’s rebellious and looking for other guys to fulfill her father’s role. It’s the daddy’s role to love and to honor his daughter. One of the things that were heartbreaking to me at the Purity Ball was watching the fathers and daughters, thinking that this might be the beginning of a new relationship for them.

Shelby & Craig Kennedy, Shreveport, Louisiana: My experience at the ball is hard to put words to. There was a proudness as a father, and a sadness that my daughter is growing up. It was such an honor to place the crown on her head, setting her up on that pedestal, letting her know that she is important, that she is beautiful, and that she is God’s creation.

LaChandra & Fitzgerald Williams, Shreveport, Louisiana: Purity wasn’t the path that I chose when I was young, but I’m glad that LaChandra chose it. I wasn’t pure and I started out with relationships at a young age, so LaChandra made me very proud with her decision to choose purity. Just like my daughter says, purity is in the Bible, but I myself went down the wrong track.

Jay & Melissa Pannebaker, Shreveport, Louisiana: I decided to make the commitment to be pure for a few reasons, one of them is that purity is the safest way to go. But the most important reason is that in the Bible, God speaks about purity, about purity of heart, purity of mind and purity of body. I believe that my body is my witnessing tool, and I should keep it pure, honoring God.

Kevin & Taylor Rogers, Tucson, Arizona: To me purity is a state of mind, something that you feel in your heart and what I hope for in my children. We’re a Christian family, devoted to a Christian way of life, and from reading the Bible we know that purity is a part of that. For me as the dad, it’s a promise that I give my daughter all the support she needs to make the right decisions in her life.

Laurel, Gary & Naomi Kruse, Black Forest, Colorado: The ball was the best night of my life. I got to dress up all pretty and feel like I was the queen for a night. Dad let us choose what we wanted to do and he told us that we were special to him. It was just so meaningful that my dad really cared enough to not just sit at home and do his taxes, but wanted to go out with us for that special night.

Danielle & Tom Sadlo, Colorado Springs, Colorado: We’re created by God for his pleasure and purity is maintaining ourselves for Him. He wants us to be happy and there’s actually more freedom if you live a pure life. You are robbing yourself of freedom if you allow yourself to be corrupted, whether you hang out with the wrong group, experiment with drugs or have sexual intimacy outside of marriage.

Joel & Bethany Pearce, Shreveport, Louisiana: I think that a lot of times people don’t understand my decision. Sometimes they come from bad homes where the dads aren’t in the picture and I think they are just searching to be accepted by someone. I have an amazing family, and I think that if you don’t get that love from your mom or dad, you might want that love from someone else.
File: Purity-DM-022.jpg
Victoria & Paul Zebb, Tucson, Arizona: I think it’s a father’s responsibility and duty to be the head of his family. One of the most important things he can do for his children, particularly his daughter, is to teach her and expose her to the right way to live, which is according to God’s law. Purity means that you keep yourself for one person, as God has commanded and instructed us to do.

Charis & Rondall Hite, Marshall, Texas: When my friend told me about the Purity Ball, it started something in my spirit that took me towards a path that I really needed to go. Where America is at right now, we need purity in our society. Not many girls or guys keep their purity at this time, and the lack of purity is one of the main things that basically just ruins peoples lives.

Tom and Calee Cortes, Surprise, Arizona: Purity is about making right choices. You can make wrong choices that will affect the rest of your life, and you can make right choices, which will affect the rest of your life. Although there is no perfect upbringing, my wife and me just want to give our children the best ability to make good choices. But we realize that they are their choices to make.

Pierce and Jasmine Nunley, Grand Cane, Louisiana: At the end, we spoke our vows to each other. At that point I was crying and I could tell that a lot of girls were just letting go of agony that had been in their hearts. They were letting it go because they knew that their fathers were there for them. Some were crying out of happiness, and some were just holding on to their fathers tight.

Jamie and David Clampitt, Shreveport, Louisiana: Purity goes beyond the physical, sexual, abstinence, that most people think it’s only about. It goes into the emotional aspect of it as well, the purity of heart. In today’s society, you just see bad example after bad example that is the result of not staying pure, and I think it’s very important to follow God’s commandments and to be pure at heart.
