Slovenians
The story of transition.
Slovenia finished its transition from socialism (under Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia) to capitalism, declaring independence in 1991 and joining the EU in 2004. Car became the primary status symbol, houses got new colourful facades (mostly in too vivid colours) and new asphalt backyards, streets got new pavements and modern bus stops. Seems like the baby boom generation is blooming. But not everyone gets to be a part of this transition story. Young people hardly get permanent employment, they once did, they are mostly self-employed struggling with high taxes and precarious work. To buy oneself an appartment is virtually impossible for anyone who did not get rich by speculative crypto investments or comes from a rich familiy. Reterees are complaining about low pensions. Who is actually better off after the transition is finished?
