The River that Carried Me is a contemplation of the intimacy shared between a couple and its subsequent loss. It focuses on an array of gestures in a series comprising of mixed media installations, individual images, and a video piece.
The lack of any portrait shots, and the sole emphasis on hands as a medium of expression further strengthens the concept; a mere gesture that speaks volumes. In her mixed media installations and photo compositions, the artist presents the setting along with the main gestures, providing a background story that draws the viewer in and puts them amidst the scene instead of just being spectators. We feel for the couple with each connection or separation. It's a story narrated with no words, just emotion.
In some of the image collages, the emptiness and stillness of the background comes as a contrast to the warmth and intimacy conveyed in the accompanying hand gestures, as if a memory of what once was versus what now is. And between the former and the current, a vivid story evidently exists.
