Saigon Pro-Wrestling Club is an internally-sustained community of male wrestlers operating in Ho Chi Minh City. Founded by Rocky "The Awesome Taurus" Huynh in 2015, members design their personas, plan engaging narratives, practice weekly and perform to a growing crowd of devotees, despite the constraints of the daily grind.
This project aims to encapsulate the unique character of SPWC members, tracing their interactions through touch, gesture and choreography to public spectacle. Processes of practice and performance are vehicles for tenderness and camaraderie. In turn, the group’s dedication allows their individual and collective creativity to flourish. The result is vibrant theatre, structured by folkloric dichotomies of ‘good vs evil’ and embedded with motifs which echo daily life in Vietnam, as well as foreign wrestling traditions like Lucha Libre (Mexico) and WWE (USA).
