Crepuscolo: Dusk/Twilight
As the sun slowly relinquishes the sky to the moon, and man lights his torches to see in the dark, dusk not only heralds the transition from day to night, but it signifies the end of one thing and the beginning of another. An unending inescapable rhythm that defines our existence and the passing of time. It is a moment that is neither one thing or another, but both. A moment when opposites coexist. A moment that reminds us what it is to be human. To be filled with contradictions, in a steady unstoppable state of flux. These moments of dramatic light and beauty profoundly manifest the delicate balance between man and nature. Between light and dark. Good and evil. The material and the spiritual. Life and death. The finite and the infinite.

"On the surface, the photos reveal a side of Sicily that starkly contrasts Martin Scorsese’s romanticized portrayal of a hot and dusty terrain dominated by mobsters, shotguns and car bombs. A stereotype the people of Sicily are still trying to cast off. Artistically, this selection of images embodies my fascination with dusk and the deep emotional response it triggers within me. All of the photos were taken either at dusk or at night by the light of the moon. Although the moonlit photos technically aren't during dusk, the daytime-like appearance along with the presence of the stars blurs the line between day and night, thus in keeping with the theme."
