Food is something we all need. It’s something we work for everyday, and yet the importance of food as a shaper of our societies is often overlooked. I like to use my camera as a way to explore the history, progression and future development of society through what is eaten, capturing everyday aspects of life that are often overlooked. My first trip to Bhutan in 2016 captured my attention for many reasons, but I found the common thread for me was always food. Eating food, growing food, preparing to grow food, harvesting food, drying food, preparing food to cook, selling and buying food as well as food being offered for ritual, these all become the lens through which I began to form a deeper understanding of the Bhutanese people, and one that I wanted to explore further with my photography and to share with others. And so I have travelled north, south, east and west, eating my way around this beautiful kingdom and gathering recipes and stories that have been so generously shared with me by the people I have met.
