When my father died eight years ago, I chose to bury him in Greensprings Natural Cemetery Preserve in Newfield, NY. The idea was new me but it seemed like the right thing to do to honor my father who was born on a farm and who taught me about nature and gardening. I was deeply moved by the experience and took pictures to share with other family members who were unable to attend. Seven years later, we buried my sister in a grave site next to my father. Once again, I documented the burial
for family and friends who could not attend. Viewed together, I hope that this series of images has value in making people more comfortable in contemplating the death of a family member or their own eventual end. It will also serve as an introduction to the still uncommon alternative of natural burial which I found to be moving in its simplicity and raw elemental beauty.
