Inner Space

This series is an attempt to give a physical presence to naturally occurring forms and patterns mostly invisible to the naked eye, and an analogue permanence to functional images predominantly created from data and usually only seen on a screen. These pieces collapse together my own photography with found imagery from astrophotography, medical scans, microscopy & satellite mapping to create an ambiguity of organic forms, exploring the visual perception of reality through light. Photons from all depths of the universe exciting our photoreceptors, sparking signals through our brains, cells and nervous system, as a connecting energy in both a scientific and mystical sense, allowing us to be aware of ourselves and the space we inhabit. For me the use of cyanotypes is also a metaphor for this; photons travelling from the sun and distant stars, their energy causing a photoreaction, a change in state that makes their presence felt.
