Last year, during the summer, I start to take some shoot in those places on the coast of Livorno that represented my childhood and where, even today, in part of the year I live. The end of result is this series "leisure under the sun".
This body of work is distinguished by adopting a distant point of view as if I wanted to distance myself so as to move away, but not too much, from the reality I was observing. This step back allowed me to be able to see better, clearly read the details and anonymous lives of people within the camera lens, and finally, to have a panoramic view of what is happening. An approach that makes this series a sort of sociological and anthropological investigation of the mass as a heterogeneous group of individuals moving in the same direction. This photography thus becomes a historicization of the place, a document to be referred to as an object to be studied in order to understand social behavior, a photograph that hides complex stories that must be observed slowly, to be plumbed in depth to read the small stories that crowd in interior of a frame that does not exist.
I try to unveil a humanity far from the splendor of the beautiful world ...from the cult of the image and the fashions but perhaps even more true, caught in all its aspects, even in its vices, in its follies, with disenchanted realism and together with sincere sympathy. My intention is to make my photos as simple and as banal as postcards, provoking a certain charm and discomfort, but also a strong desire to start getting lost in the details and the desire to look away.
The reason for this discomfort derives from the distortion of meaning and importance that the shot provokes on the event depicted with respect to the usual perception of photography.
This is a ongoing project start in 2018.
