Sun City Poms
Project info

Nestled away in Arizona is Sun City. A retirement city of around 37,500 where you have to be over 55 to live there.

Part of that community is the Sun City Poms. A cheerleading troupe of retirees, ranging in age from 55 all the way through to 86. They train twice a week and perform up to 50 times a year. The Poms were formed in 1979 and were initially a group of cheerleaders for the Sun City Saints women’s softball team.

I was struck by the fact that at one end of US society you have groups of children participating in beauty pageants, trying to be older than their years. While at the other end of the scale you have groups such as the Moms trying to hold back the years. And in their case, doing a very good job of it.
