I spent time traveling around the poorer edges of Colima, Mexico with a close friend who was giving her time to help a group of nuns from Columbia. The nuns were dedicated to ministering to lepers and would bring them food, medicine, scrub their wounds and accept them as human beings.
I was interested in the fact that these people needed the love and support of their families and the nuns to get by. The Mexican government had previously promised to eradicate leprosy by the end of their term in government so when this didn't happen they ceased to acknowledge their existence. This meant no government funding for medicine, aid or welfare programs.
I wanted to explore the relationships with the families and carers and communicate their connection through my photography.
