This project is about identity, origin and social relations.
Thematically both the exhibition and the book that will be produced in retrospect are based on old family photos and pictures from the trip to Japan and the island of Sakhalin, where I was born.
The images are manipulated, processed and transferred onto handmade Japanese washi paper. These flat images are then torn apart and shaped together with pulp into sculptural shapes.
The elements become partially transparent, which creates more views. Shapes can be seen as different from the front and the back.
A symbolic interpretation.
