The wildlife and landscapes of the Lake District National Park in the northwest of England are the focus of my photography.
I was born and raised in Cumbria, in a small town called Penrith, not far from the park's boundary. However, it wasn't until I had grown up and left the region to study and travel that I realized the true beauty of the Lake District that I had left behind—an idyllic district of grand fells, luxurious lakes and pastoral valleys, a place where people and land are intricately connected.
When I returned, years later, to live again in Penrith, I spent most of my free time in the national park, where I was inspired to express my passion for nature through photography, as well as writing.
I am particularly fond of greyscale photography; it is fascinating how changing a colour photo into black and white can alter the mood and atmosphere of the image dramatically. Also, I feel that the presentation of an image without colour has a tantalising quality to it, similar in effect to the partial revelation of a secret, it leaves something for the imagination to run wild with.
