Every October from 1938 up until and including 1976 prisoners in the Texas Prison System had a chance to audition with their skills for an opportunity to participate in a rodeo where the venue was the rodeo arena. That rodeo arena was about 2 city blocks away and where prisoners were executed who were under the Death Penalty for certain crimes. A warden told me that the rodeo was discontinued "'cause there ain't no cowboys anymore".
