I am very much drawn to natural patterns in my photography. This series takes a look at the repeating patterns displayed by a tree against the evening sky. These patterns which i believe reveal the order in nature also reveals the beauty in nature as well as the inherent intelligence. For me, I believe that this is why I'm drawn to nature as a subject for my photography.
Chaos does not exist in the universe. What appears as chaos to the naked eye is really governed by a strict mathematical order. All the way down to the atomic level there is a very strict order that repeats itself from the atom to the order of the elements in the Periodic Table. This order is expressed in nature through fractals which is a repeating pattern within a particular unit (a forest, a tree, a branch, a leaf, etc.) These repeating patterns permeate all of nature and are responsible for why we are drawn to looking at nature. According to Richard Taylor, a physicist at the University of Oregon, these patterns have a beneficial effect on the viewer and can be very soothing. This may be a contributor to the reason why research now shows that 2hrs a week spent in nature is beneficial for health. Taylor's research seems to bolster this idea.
