Imposition

My father succumbed to the throes of death within the span of a week due to an illness I have yet to understand. Six months later, my mother lost her battle with brain cancer. I watched as her body became a husk of the person she once was. Experiencing this as I turned 18 meant death reaped immense trauma on my life resulting in the creation of Imposition. Imposition is my latest attempt at grappling with the experiences of death from a young age. Combining x-ray images of bones or skeletal systems. I forcibly morph and distort their natural forms. The prints invoke moments of physical trauma: a severed femur, a rib cage breaking to reveal the vertebrae behind it, spine engulfing in black decay. Like the scar from a stab wound, these floating specters are a permanent reminder of the past.
