Houston is a city of modern skyscrapers with great diversity in architectural style. "Houston Architecture: Beyond Visible" looks at major Houston buildings through the eye of non-visible infrared photography.
The photographs were taken with a high-resolution digital camera converted to be sensitive to infrared radiation. The images, taken through a Kodak Wratten No. 87C filter, are black and white and have a “clean”, surrealist, high-contrast appearance. The images highlight a range of views from wide scenes to architectural details. Geometries, patterns, lines, curves, reflections, and shadows are emphasized in a semi-abstract presentation without regard to conventional perspectives. The objective of the work is to show the beautiful, unique and often subtle architectural designs of Houston’s skyscrapers that we often overlook in our busy, everyday lives.
