This body of work is from an ongoing series of photographs studying light and shadow on a set of repeating monolithic arches located in Astoria Park, New York City. Over the last year creating this work I've been able to slowly reduce compositional distractions and work towards a minimalistic exploration of shape, repetition and tone. I worked with film for the capture because I wanted to explore a sense of mystery that I felt was missing in my digital work. The choice of black and white location based image making was a rejection of the stylized color still life work I made as a student. Ultimately my goals for this series are to create images that are abstract but give the viewer a sense of comfort.
