Since July 2019, authorities have begun imposing a security cordon in many government and police headquarters using 2-meter-high water filled barriers to avoid direct impact between police and protesters. This unprecedented installation throughout the entire city becomes a new metaphor in this anti-government protest of Hong Kong and create a new urban scenery even in absence of street conflict. 'Be water' is the most famous saying of Bruce Lee that becomes the clarion call of young protesters, reminding themselves a “formless” protest to sustain their momentum and secure the continued goodwill of the public. Water finds itself a double meaning in this anti-government protest. The concept of 'barrier' appears in many different forms, and keep evolving itself throughout the protest.
