Homeland

In these photos representing changes of China Three Gorges areas, I see human being’s influence on the nature especially remarkable. They can be regarded special in Three Gorges, but in fact they are common in the present China. We can easily find that our homeland exhibit human being’s Construction and Deconstruction on the natural landscape. And these sceneries also bring forth sensitive revelation of human being’s invasion into the nature and the relations among human beings. In fact, in our home landscape, a person, a thing, a mountain, a water are a reflection of the social background of the times. In the vast universe and the natural landscape, human is very small, but is also great, just like a grain of dust. We must live on the basis of the home, besides, the power of human to change the nature is enormous. People continually transform and use the nature, immoderately obtain from the nature. Many artificial landscapes can be seen all around. First, they dig up the mountains, fill in the rivers, then they build cities, construct buildings, Instead, we finally found us farther away from nature. So we have to remake mountains and rivers. But we find that those artificial dull landscapes are all not so true, no spirit, no culture, no inheritance. The clear creek in front of the house, the big trees in front of the village, the rocks on the river wharf, many many things can be only printed on the memory pictures forever. The photo was taken in chongqing, hubei province, with black and white film and large frame camera. The photography works mainly show the cultural landscape changes on both sides of the Yangtze river after the completion of the construction of the Three Gorges project.
