The works in Submerge come out of my recent fascination with water and our relationship with it. These images, taken in and around the Bay Area, are about looking inward and finding beauty right in front of you-- rather than seeking it in exotic, faraway locations. The soft focus (lack of focus?) encourages a meditative experience that is personalized to the viewer, rather than evoking a specific time or place.
After the drowning of a well-loved community member, this body of work began to explore water’s power to take life as much as support it. Picturing its transformative nature through abstraction highlights both its timelessness and its serenity, offering a glimpse of the sublime.
