METAMORPHOSIS The series

Metamorphosis the series signifies the changes the muse undergoes while experiencing the harsh reality of my country Nigeria The teddy signifies queer sexuality (it also loosely signifies childhood innocence and creativity). As we all know Nigeria is a strongly homophobic traditional country which does not accommodate a different lifestyle that is against the status quo. I saw a quote saying "homophobia steals the innocence of first love" People under the LGBTQ umbrella suffers discriminations in Nigeria(Nigeria has a law of 14 years of jail time for practicing homosexuality)which forces them to burn the pride of sexuality and stay hidden. This series also loosely explores how creatives within Nigeria are forced to adopt a similar identity because difference is frown upon. This is a struggle i personally face as a conceptual photographer in a country that only appreciates the work of portraits and wedding photographers.
