Annually in the summer months. Hindus from around the world congregate together in a month-long festive season named Thaipusam.
Within these 30 days of prayers, Lord Murugan's statue will be released from the temple and into the public in his golden chariot, his followers all undergo rituals to release ego and become a better individual. During this time they endure Strength and Sacrifice.
Every religion undergoes this process to become closer to god but I wanted to connect us all to their energy and emotion. This physical and mental state to combat our own ego and to be completely selfless.
A true duty to devotion.
The aim of this submission is to spread awareness in cultural ceremonies, showcasing similarities and uniqueness to each community. I believe the method of delivery with these stories belongs on to both print and online editorials such as National Geographic, Reuters and other companies that represent world news and could also be showcased at photography exhibitions that specialise in photojournalism with the similar narrative.
Hopefully the next project would to document Thaipusam in different countries from Malaysia to Mauritius to see other variants of this cultural ceremony.
