I often find myself driving the smallest roads. I seek to experience the silent, solitary and inhabitant landscape. In the wilderness, next to “nothing”, I find the places most intriguing.
What happens when we arrive to a new place without knowing its history? My imagination starts to observe small details, make meanings and build up stories.
Series Structura was born during my journey exploring the hidden and secluded in the northern parts of Finland. In these marginal places, architectural forms and sheltering constructions made of secondhand clothes, started to appear.
Landscape is not only a topographical, objective phenomenon.
For me, it is personal and subjective. Working with a landscape means going into it: sensing the rain and mist, exploiting the unpredictable and the coincidence.
By combing old clothes and places, landscape turns into my personal mindscape.
