I call these images my "Portrait Montages" project.
When I was exploring the idea of focusing on portraits I was disheartened by how many good portrait photographers there are and wondered how I could make mine different.
At the time I was feeling a bit lost, disconnected with who I felt I was and simply felt..."off". I was struggling with civilian life after being in the military and it added to my feelings of being broken apart and only allowed to show parts of who I am.
I believe that everyone feels similarly at some point, and wanted to find a way to take portraits that showed us one being made of of different parts whilst still being..."off".
At first I thought to simply take one image and split it up, but it felt gimmicky and already overdone. So then I thought of taking many different photos of the same subject from different perspectives (ie moving down the subject until I was laying on the ground!) so that it was impossible for me to stitch them perfectly, creating a natural "off"-ness to the images.
These are the results.
I appreciate your viewing of my photographs.
