"Fleur Noir" is a series of nine limited edition floral art prints, which Paul has created using the chiaroscuro lighting technique. Italian for “light-dark”, chiaroscuro is a method that has been used by painters and other artists for hundreds of years to suggest drama and suspense.
The title "Fleur Noir" - “dark flower” - plays on the phrase "Film Noir" and is partly inspired by that classic genre of film, where mystery and drama is evoked by hard light, dark shadows and strong contrasts.
Just for a moment, like a character in a ‘noir’ film, the flower has stepped out of the dark shadows, into a pool of light.
