Not too long ago, queer was still used as a slur. But nowadays, queer is not only a fight against the mainstream, heteronormative society and it’s binary division between men vs women or gay vs straight. But it is also an umbrella term that can be used by anyone under the LGBTI+ spectrum. It is a term that not only stands for your identity, but at the same time stands for the community.
The beauty of queer is that it gives a sense of community without the need for a more specific label. You might be trans, I might be gay - but we’re both queer, and that brings us together. Just as the people photographed in this series, who are all different yet connected by the same community. A community, where I am also part of. And proud of.
